Cry Of The Poor Articles
#6.Cry of the Poor
“Have you ever been without water or food? Have you ever been homeless? Have you ever had little to no money? Well, many people have -which makes them vulnerable, anxious, and in dire need of help. Many poor people even need to migrate to new countries and find new places to live.
#5.How do droughts affect people?
Did you know future droughts in the world may even surpass the Sahel disaster ? Droughts in the African countries of the Sahel caused massive losses of agricultural production and livestock, loss of human lives to hunger, malnutrition and disease, huge displacements of people, and shattered economies. According to the USA for United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees , more than 4.2 million people have been displaced across the region; 3.7 million people have been internally displaced; and more than 10 million children are in need of humanitarian assistance. Climate change could bring about even more consequences.
#4.Climate Migrants
The International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC) said, “Climate refugees also referred to as climate change refugees and climate migrants are individuals who have been displaced from their homes due to natural disasters and climate change. This includes floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, desertification, droughts, rising sea levels, and more. These events not only affect the safety of individuals, but can also cause food, water, and other long-term resource shortages that push people from their homes”. They also said, the term “climate migrant” is more accurate than climate change refugee because, much like internally displaced persons, climate migrants are not recognized as refugees under international refugee law. This means they do not have the same protections and rights when seeking asylum as people who have fled their home country to escape persecution based on religion, race, nationality, or political opinion.
#3.Earth’s Atmosphere
During a nice day, what do you see in the sky? Maybe a blue sky with drifting white clouds and sunlight striking (heating) the Earth? It’s so glorious and vast from Earth; but from space, it’s so very thin. Do you know it’s our atmosphere that contains oxygen for us to breathe, and it is our security blanket protecting us from ultraviolet rays? If we had no atmosphere, there would be no life. The atmosphere even allows us to hear.
#2.Global Warming and Climate Change
In previous articles, we’ve highlighted Pope Francis’ efforts in “Laudato Si’” and discussed many ecological principles. But there’s more, such as melting of the Earth’s permafrost; melting of glaciers and icebergs; and a reduction in albedo (reflectivity of the sun’s rays) by snow covered areas in the world.

Did you know that, on May 24, 2015, Pope Francis signed an encyclical called “Laudato Si’ – On Care for our Common Home?” Five years later, he announced an Anniversary Year from May 24, 2020, to May 24, 2021, where he encourages a new way of living.
